Pharmacy Residency Programs

The ASHP accredited Residencies with the Department of Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System and Texas Tech University School of Pharmacy are 12 month programs designed to develop skills in clinical pharmacy and pharmacy leadership while providing opportunities for didactic and clinical teaching and clinical research.

VA North Texas Health Care System logoThe Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) consists of three campuses including the Dallas VAMC, Sam Rayburn Memorial Hospital in Bonham and the Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic. All of our offered pharmacy residency positions are based at the Dallas VAMC. The Dallas VAMC serves as a major training center for many health professionals including medical students, residents and fellows from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.  The Dallas VAMC Campus provides patient care services and conducts clinical research in many inpatient and outpatient specialty areas and draws patients from all over the nation. The Dallas VAMC campus includes a 500-bed inpatient facility and encounters one million outpatient visits annually. The Clinical Addition outpatient facility which includes the Pharmacy opened in 1999. Pharmacy and the VANTHCS have state of the art robotics and medical information systems. Pharmacy Service is progressive and growing and includes 30 clinical pharmacists who provide pharmacy services in a variety of specialty areas. There is ample opportunity for advanced practice pharmacists to develop innovative and advanced patient care practices in collaboration with the medical staff at this federal facility.

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Pharmacy at Dallas Fort Worth

The Texas Tech School of Pharmacy was established in 1993 and is part of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Founded upon the idealism that tomorrow's pharmacists must be independent thinking and technologically advanced, all education and training utilize problem-based learning techniques with a strong emphasis on computer literacy. All course materials are maintained on the School's World Wide Web servers. The main campus for the school of pharmacy is located in Amarillo and has a state of the art facility with high tech, online classrooms. Regional campuses are located in Dallas/Ft Worth, Lubbock, and Abilene. The first class graduated in May 2000. The Dallas/Fort Worth Regional Campus was established in 1999. Approximately 13 full-time and 25 adjunct clinical faculty as well as a distance learning classroom in DFW will support the education and training of 80 students in their last 2 years of pharmacy school and 10-20 residents. Residents are actively involved in didactic and clinical teaching and helping facilitate Pharm.D. students in acquiring problem-based learning skills.
