  1. Discuss your laboratory test results with your primary care provider.  Your primary care provider will enter a consult in the computer for hepatitis C antiviral treatment.
     

  2. Attend the Hepatitis C Overview Education Class

    • This class is held every Monday morning, except for federal holidays from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, in room 3B600, in the Clinical Addition.

    • You do not need an appointment to attend.

    • You can attend the class more than once.

    • You can bring family members to the class.

    • Topics presented at the class are

    • HCV natural history, risk factors, transmission and incidence

    • Current available treatments for HCV at the Dallas VA

    • Treatment evaluation process at the Dallas VA

    • Risk reduction strategies for further transmission

    You must attend the class before hepatitis C treatment can be considered.

  3. After attending class, your medical record will be reviewed by the hepatitis C team. 

  4. If antiviral treatment is appropriate for you, you will receive an appointment in the mail within the next 30 days.

  5. If you do not receive an appointment letter within 30 days, then you need to contact your primary care provider to discuss options.  You may need further lab tests, x-rays, or procedures before antiviral treatment can be considered.
