Exciting Changes at the Bonham Domiciliary
The Bonham Domiciliary at VA North Texas Health Care System has long recognized the need for Women Veterans to have a dedicated space in the Dom - a separate and secure place where women could thrive in the program. Renovations to existing Dom space created a 12-bed unit, including double occupancy rooms, lounge area, TV room, shower and laundry facilities. Another addition is the family room that encourages children and family visits when Veterans are not in treatment.
The Women's Wing was created specifically for women Veterans and their needs. Women Veterans were involved in the design process, and the colors and textures selected make a comfortable home for those seeking help in the Dom program.
Treatment is often for PTSD, depression, substance abuse or medical rehabilitation.
In addition, the Bonham Domiciliary recently began an 18-bed residential PTSD program designed to serve any Veteran experiencing active symptoms of PTSD regardless of the type of trauma. Although the program is structured as a closed cohort model, Veterans can be accepted into the general Domiciliary prior to starting the cohort where they can engage in initial treatment prior to engaging in the more intensive services provided within the new PTSD residential program.
