VA is the right choice for women Veterans.

As the population of women Veterans continues to grow, VA is ready. We have a number of services available for women Veterans to ensure their health care needs are met. Women Veterans can trust VA with their health care because it’s the best and right choice.

We offer a range of services for the gender-specific needs of women Veterans like preventive care and treatment including mammography, gynecological care/surgery and maternity referrals. Menopause treatment and hormonal therapy is also available.

Women Veterans also benefit from a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) at primary care locations. PACT offers increased communication between women and their doctor. Annually, women Veterans are invited to attend campaign events such as Women & Heart Symposium and Cancer Awareness. Comprehensive care in outpatient clinics includes preventive screenings for cholesterol and high blood pressure.

When women Veterans visit our facilities and clinics, they will notice cultural changes set in place on their behalf.

  • Staff has been trained to stay focused and aware of how to appropriately address women in a predominantly male atmosphere.
  • Women Veterans can have a chaperone or family member accompany them to their appointments or exams.
  • Doctors and other health care providers communicate better with women Veterans. They attend annual gender-specific training on women’s health which helps foster proficiency in the services provided to women Veterans.
  • Mental Health is more efficient at treating PTSD and military sexual trauma in women Veterans.

To receive these benefits, call Women Veterans Health Program at (214) 857-1938 or (214) 929-6762. More information is on the web at: Health Care for Women Veterans.
