What Returning Combat Veterans Should Know
To all returning combat Veterans from OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom), OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom), OND (Operation New Dawn) and many other places around the world, we value your service to this great Nation and appreciate your sacrifice. VA North Texas Health Care System is committed to ensuring you receive the health care benefits you need and deserve. Don't hesitate to call on us for support.

What Returning Combat Veterans Are Eligible For
Our mission is to provide continuity and improved coordination of health care and benefits for seriously injured or ill service members returning from combat operations as they transition from Department of Defense to VA. Returning combat Veterans are eligible for:

  • Transition assistance and case management services
  • Cost free care, including medications for conditions potentially related to combat service for up to five (5) years following discharge or release from active duty
  • Enrollment into Priority Group 6, if not otherwise qualified for a higher enrollment priority group assignment
  • Full access to VA’s medical benefits package
  • Potential eligibility for dental care within 180 days of discharge from active duty under conditions other than dishonorable from a period of service not less than 90 days (if not previously evaluated and treated within 90 days of discharge from the military).

What Returning Combat Veterans Need to Do
First thing is become a patient at VA North Texas Health Care System. To begin the process, complete an Application for Health Care Benefits. You can submit the form online, print the form and mail it, fax it or bring it to one of the facilities listed below. Once your application is completely processed, you can begin accessing health care services.

In-person registration is available for all returning combat Veterans at the admissions and enrollment areas at any one of the following facilities:
