Dallas VA Medical Center Celebrates Cancer Survivors

DALLAS – Cancer patients and their families face many challenges during the course of therapy, and it is important to have strong emotional support from family and friends to endure the difficult times. Oncology nurses at VA North Texas Health Care System saw this need and began hosting National Cancer Survivors Day to celebrate life and remind cancer patients it is possible to have an active productive life.
Veterans with cancer come to Dallas VA from areas as far as Oklahoma, Louisiana, West Texas, and south as far as Austin as well as north central Texas. Oncology sections offer a full range of services for cancer patients with state-of-the-art therapies in conjunction with the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, including medical, radiation and surgical oncology, and ENT as well as psychological, social, chaplain, and dietary programs. VA is also a leader in providing access to clinical trials to provide the very best care to the nation’s Veterans and their families in dealing with the catastrophic diagnosis of cancer.
The 12th annual National Cancer Survivors Day program will be held Saturday, June 12, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. in the atrium at Dallas VA Medical Center, 4500 S. Lancaster Rd., and feature information booths detailing available services and treatments for cancer patients as well as food and fun. Entertainment will be provided by Mr. Rock and Roll, a Veteran and three- time cancer survivor. Door prizes will be awarded. Come join the celebration of life with other local cancer survivors.
