VA Bowlers Take 1st Place in Veterans Bowling Tournament

August 23, 2010

Members of the bowling team representing Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham took 1st place in the annual Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) tournament held in Greenville recently.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) team (pictured left to right) includes veterans Nikki Burt, Billy Burt, Leon Lorton, Bob Hoffman, and Bob Martin all of Greenville.

The tournament attracts teams from VA medical centers, vet centers and outpatient clinics nationwide. The BVL network usually collects approximately $1 million each year to support recreational and therapeutic programs and services in VA facilities across the country.

“Our bowlers are delighted to be a part of this event, and look forward to the competition,” said Dale Joy, recreation assistant at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center.  “Being a part of this bowling team helps our veterans boost their spirits, speed recuperation, and improve morale.”

Veterans interested in bowling on the VA team should contact Dale Joy at 903-583-6396. Participants must be an inpatient or outpatient of Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center.
