Pathology & Laboratory Medicine
Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Service (P&LMS) is among the most technologically advanced clinical pathology laboratories in the Nation and provides accurate, timely and cost effective, full range laboratory services. It provides routine clinical lab tests and esoteric testing such as viral load, molecular epidemiology and toxicological drug testing. P&LMS performs and interprets more than 10 million laboratory tests every year for all of our facilities.
P&LMS includes the sections of both anatomic and clinical pathology. Anatomic pathology services include surgical pathology, cytopathology and autopsy. The clinical pathology section performs comprehensive chemical, hematological, coagulation, toxicology, transfusion medicine, flow cytometry, bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, molecular biology and immunology testing. The main laboratory at Dallas VAMC operates 24 hours, 7 days a week.
